Behind the Mask

I'm hitting the Halloween Singularity, a convergence of finishing up Inktober, my birthday celebrations, Halloween prep, and — this year — meeting a deadline for four new pieces. I've had one partially done for a while, but I had barely done any work on thre other three. The new clay for it was really hard to work, so I kept putting it off.

That only works for so long. Now it's crunch time.

Today I finally rebuilt my mask mold (this one has a more acute angle for the nose) and made the mask that I thought would be the easiest. I seriously hope that I was wrong. I broke my own rules and went for 6 hours on this one, tempting fate, risking the clay becoming brittle. It managed to survive the oven, which is a great relief.

For this mask, I used several of the molds from my Mythos Collection and essentially created a blended collage. Here are some progress photos.

Now that I have the mold built again and am back in the groove, I hope that the other two will come more quickly. It will be nice to be able to finish to everything that's on my plate and move into November better able to get back to me regular To Do list. Those mushrooms aren't going to sculpt themselves!
