All That Glitters…

In preparing submissions for a pop-up gallery show early next month, I have been making variations on my recent pendants. I've been leaning into the more golden mica powder shades, and, as usual, I'm finding a small artificial constraint to be fueling creativity.

The curators for the upcoming “Touch of Gold” show assured me that my copper colors were close enough to qualify, but I wanted to make special versions of some of my best designs, especially for this show. With that in mind, I've gone more gold and stretched my base colors farther. I've also tried using parts of molds to make coordinating earrings. On the whole, this is the sort of thing that many of us need from time to time to keep us from growing stale. Just a nudge.

I won't be able to put all of these in the show, as there are limited spots, but the explorations of color have been very refreshing. The midnight blue, for instance, is a mixture of what colors I had onhand and thought might approximate a night sky or dark lapis. I was pleasantly surprised at how well that worked.

The mother of necessity

Had I had time to go to the store, I'd have picked up a dark blue, but I don't think that I could have been happier than I am with this result. That rich alizarin crimson, black, and shimmering turquoise made for a delightful midnight blue.

I'm always happy for feedback, especially when I'm trying something new. Please let me know how you feel about the earrings. I think that I might do a standard set of colors and do mix-and-match sets next year if there's any demand for that. They'd go really well with a shawl or scarf made of this year's demo yarn…

Whatever I choose for the Arden Lee show will be available for sale at their pop-up gallery show on 6 Dec at The Branch in Racine. The others, I guess could be for sale privately if I don't have any more shows this year. (Still tbd. Stay tuned!)
